In Response to Peter Obi's Criticism, JAMB Explains Why it Requested that Candidates Return for the Exam by 6:30 am.
In response to criticism from a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified the necessity for candidates to arrive as early as 6:30 AM on Saturday for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Obi expressed his concerns on his X account on Sunday afternoon, stating: 'I have encountered numerous reports indicating that students are required to attend a public examination at 6:30 AM.
These teenagers, primarily aged 15 to 17, are compelled to travel in the dark, even amidst security threats, across perilous and unfamiliar areas, all in pursuit of their fundamental right to education and to participate in the JAMB examinations. Scheduling exams for vulnerable adolescents as early as 6:00 AM while requiring them to traverse remote locations is irresponsible. Reports are already surfacing of students being involved in accidents and tragically losing their lives, with some going missing and many others experiencing undue trauma. Who is accountable when a 15- or 16-year-old child vanishes or suffers harm while attempting to secure their educational rights? This unfortunate scenario highlights a more profound systemic failure: Nigeria lacks sufficient universities and examination centers to accommodate its youth. Currently, Nigeria has approximately 200 universities for a population exceeding 200 million, resulting in a ratio of one university for every one million citizens, a deeply concerning statistic that underscores the deteriorating state of the country's educational access.
Data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics and IndexMundi indicates that nations striving for robust development, strong economies, and widespread access to higher education should aim for a Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of at least 40%. In this context, Nigeria, with a population of approximately 230 million and around 200 universities, has a GER of roughly 12%. In contrast, Indonesia, which has a population of about 280 million and over 4,000 tertiary institutions, boasts a ratio of one university for every 70,000 individuals and a GER exceeding 45%. The Indonesian education system supports more than 10 million students enrolled in tertiary education across various age groups, reflecting significant investment in education. This investment is evident in the favorable university-to-population ratio, which facilitates access for a large student body.
Conversely, Nigeria's GER is markedly below the global average, highlighting an urgent need for substantial educational investment to foster national growth and development. Unlike Nigeria, Indonesia has universities distributed throughout its regions, ensuring that access to examinations, learning, and opportunities is more equitable and secure. If Nigeria were to achieve even half of Indonesia's educational infrastructure, approximately 2,000 universities, Nigerian children would not have to undertake perilous journeys merely to take exams, nor would they face challenges in gaining university admission despite performing well. Education should not be viewed as a luxury or an expense; it is the most significant contributor to a nation's development and the most crucial investment a country can make. One cannot profess a desire for development while denying young people access to knowledge. It is contradictory to claim to value citizens while endangering the lives of teenagers during examination periods. There is a pressing need to expand our education system with urgency and intention.
We must endeavor to align our population with educational access. The safety of our youth should not be compromised due to their pursuit of education. As a nation, we must improve and guarantee that our future leaders receive the new Nigeria they rightfully deserve. A new Nigeria is achievable. -PO. In response, JAMB stated; 'Your Excellency, I must emphasize that our examination is set to begin at 8:00 am, not 6:00 am. Although verification and other clearance procedures will start at 6:30 am, it is crucial that candidates are given sufficient time to acclimate before the examination commences.' 'Considering the common tendency among Nigerians to arrive late when a start time is established without allowance for unforeseen circumstances, this organized timeline is vital to ensure that all candidates are adequately prepared and can perform at their highest potential.'
The Vatican Sets a Date for the Conclave to Start Electing a New Catholic Pope.
The Vatican announced on Monday that Catholic cardinals will convene on May 7 to commence the voting process for a new pope, following the recent passing of Pope Francis. Cardinals, referred to as the 'Princes of the Church' and under the age of 80, will gather in the Sistine Chapel to elect a new spiritual leader for the 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide. This date was established during a meeting of cardinals of all ages on Monday morning, just two days after the funeral of Francis, who passed away on April 21 at the age of 88. The Church's 252 cardinals were summoned back to Rome after the Argentine pope's death, although only 135 are eligible to participate in the conclave. These cardinals come from diverse regions around the world, many of whom are unfamiliar with one another. However, they have already held four preliminary meetings last week, known as 'general congregations', to foster better relationships. Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, 83, a former leader of the Italian bishops' conference, remarked on the 'beautiful, fraternal atmosphere' present. He acknowledged potential challenges due to the large number of voters and the lack of familiarity among them, as he stated in an interview with Italy's Corriere della Sera newspaper. On Monday, the Vatican began preparations by closing the Sistine Chapel, where the voting will occur beneath Michelangelo's renowned 16th-century ceiling frescoes. Currently, there are few indications regarding the cardinals' potential choice. Spanish Cardinal Jose Cobo expressed in an interview with El Pais published on Sunday that he believes this conclave will also be full of surprises, similar to Pope Francis's tenure, as it remains unpredictable. Pope Francis was interred on Saturday in a funeral and burial ceremony that attracted 400,000 attendees to St. Peter's Square and surrounding areas, including members of royalty, world leaders, and ordinary pilgrims. On Sunday, approximately 70,000 mourners paid their respects at his marble tomb located in the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica in Rome, following his decision to be buried outside the Vatican's walls.
Bookmakers’ odds
In light of ongoing global conflicts and diplomatic tensions, Italian Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who served as secretary of state under Pope Francis, is widely regarded as the leading candidate to succeed him. British bookmakers, including William Hill, have placed him slightly ahead of Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, the former Metropolitan Archbishop of Manila, with Ghana’s Cardinal Peter Turkson following closely behind. The odds also include Matteo Zuppi, the Archbishop of Bologna, Guinea’s Cardinal Robert Sarah, and Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.
While Pope Francis's initiatives aimed at fostering a more compassionate Church have garnered him considerable admiration, certain reforms have provoked discontent among the Church's conservative factions, particularly in the United States and Africa. Roberto Regoli, a Church history and culture professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, remarked to AFP that the cardinals will seek a leader capable of promoting greater unity. He noted, 'We are in a period where Catholicism is facing various polarizations, so I do not anticipate a swift conclave.' Although Bassetti, who is ineligible to vote due to age, expressed his belief that the conclave will not be prolonged. Approximately 80 percent of the cardinal electors were appointed by Pope Francis, yet this does not ensure that they will select a successor who mirrors his approach. Most of the electors are relatively young, and for many, this will be their inaugural conclave. The voting process is highly confidential and adheres to strict regulations and ceremonial protocols, potentially extending over several days. Voting occurs four times daily—twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon—until a candidate achieves a two-thirds majority.
Less than half of those eligible to vote are from Europe.
"The future pope should possess a universal compassion, embracing all continents. We must focus on proposals rather than race or origin," stated Cardinal Dieudonne Nzapalainga from the Central African Republic in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero.
"We require a leader of courage and boldness, one who can articulate powerfully and steer the Church through turbulent times, providing stability in an age marked by significant uncertainty."
Patrizia Spotti, a 68-year-old Italian visiting Rome for the 2026 Jubilee holy year, expressed to AFP on Monday her desire for the new pontiff to embody the qualities of Pope Francis.
She remarked on the challenging circumstances facing Catholicism, noting, "Churches are vacant. Furthermore, the Church has erred, particularly in light of the numerous scandals involving children," alluding to the extensive disclosures of clerical sexual abuse.
Read Senator Natasha's Heartbreaking Apologies to Akpabio.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Udaughan, the suspended lawmaker from Kogi Central, has issued a sincere apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio regarding the contentious sexual harassment claim she made against him. However, her apology was delivered in a satirical letter directed to Akpabio, who is currently attending the funeral of the late Pope Francis in Rome, and was shared with the press in Abuja on Sunday. The letter states: 'Dear Distinguished Senate President Godswill Akpabio, I express my deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret in offering this apology for the grave offense of maintaining dignity and self-respect in your esteemed presence.
I have given considerable thought to my unforgivable oversight in failing to recognize that legislative success in certain circles is evidently not achieved through merit, but rather through the age-old practice of compliance — of a very personal nature. How negligent of me not to grasp that my refusal to acquiesce to your... “requests” was not simply a personal decision, but a breach of the unwritten laws governing the entitlement of certain men. Indeed, I must apologize for valuing competence over submission, vision over vanity, and the mandate of the people over private gatherings behind closed doors. I now comprehend the dire repercussions of my actions: delayed legislation, heightened tempers, and the unfortunate bruising of egos so vast they necessitate their own postal codes. For this disruption to the established order of 'quid pro quo,' I bow my head in fictitious shame. I implore you to find it in your generous heart — buried deep beneath layers of entitlement — to pardon this obstinate woman who mistakenly thought her Senate seat was secured through elections, not through personal favors. I remain Yours in unwavering resistance, Senator Natasha H Akpoti Uduaghan, Unafraid, Unbought, and Unbroken.'
Why Judges and Registrars Were Sanctioned by the Kano State Judiciary
The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has implemented disciplinary measures against two court registrars and two judges of the Upper Shari’a Court due to misconduct. This information was conveyed in a statement released by the spokesperson for the Kano State Judiciary, Mr. Baba Jibo-Ibrahim, on Monday in Kano. He indicated that this decision was part of the resolutions made during the JSC’s 80th meeting held on April 22, 2025. The commission, adhering to its mandate, accepted the recommendations from the investigation conducted by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee and resolved to suspend and formally warn the individuals involved. The individuals suspended include Ibrahim Adamu, Principal Registrar II of the Kano High Court, and Maigida Lawan, Principal Registrar of the Sharia Court of Appeal.
Additionally, Upper Sharia Court Judges Alkali Mansur Ibrahim and Nasiru Ahmad received formal warnings. Jibo-Ibrahim stated that Adamu was suspended without pay for a period of six months. The statement further noted that his promotion has been postponed following findings that confirmed he verbally assaulted and attempted to physically confront his superior, which constitutes gross misconduct in violation of the Kano State Civil Service Rules 2004 and the JSC Regulations. This marks the second instance in which Adamu has faced an investigative committee for violence-related incidents at work, having received multiple queries previously. The commission deemed Adamu’s conduct to be severely inappropriate for his position and imposed the necessary disciplinary actions. Furthermore, the statement indicated that Lawan, Principal Registrar of the Kano State Sharia Court of Appeal, was also suspended without pay for six months, effective immediately, after being found guilty of soliciting and accepting improper benefits under false pretenses. The commission accepted the JPCC's recommendation, resulting in Lawan's demotion by one grade level (from GL-13 to GL-12).
The commission has issued a warning to Malam Mansur Ibrahim, a judge of the Upper Shari’a Court, after it was confirmed that he employed derogatory and offensive language towards a litigant. Additionally, a formal warning was given to Nasiru Ahmad, another judge of the Upper Shari’a Court, for detaining a judgment debtor in a manner that indicated personal bias and undermined judicial neutrality. It was emphasized that discretionary powers should be exercised with the highest degree of fairness and objectivity to maintain public trust in the judiciary. The JSC reiterated its strict stance against misconduct and corruption, highlighting its dedication to accountability, transparency, and the rule of law. Furthermore, all judicial officers and staff are reminded to act in a way that upholds the dignity and trust placed in them by the citizens of Kano State. Jibo-Ibrahim cautioned all court personnel against engaging in corrupt activities, stating that those found guilty of corruption will face mandatory retirement, as the JSC will not tolerate any form of corruption.

The event was hosted by the charismatic duo of actress and media personality Nancy Isime alongside veteran broadcaster IK Osakioduwa, who infused the stage with their charm, humor, and energy. He also captivated the audience with an engaging live performance. One of the most poignant moments of the night was the presentation of the Special Recognition Award to Kcee, honoring his lasting contributions to the Nigerian music scene, his cultural influence, and his impressive artistic journey over the past 26 years. In a deeply touching moment, the late Mohbad was posthumously awarded the Best Street-Hop Artiste award for his hit single 'Ask About Me.' His family, including his wife and young son Liam, accepted the award on his behalf, receiving a standing ovation from the audience. The ceremony also included a heartfelt tribute, celebrating Mohbad's significant impact on the music industry and the legacy he has left behind.
In addition to his victory, Mohbad received several posthumous nominations, including Best Collaboration for 'Egwu' alongside Chike and Afrobeats Single of the Year for the same song. These nominations and his posthumous acknowledgment highlight the lasting impact of his music and the significant gap his departure has created in the industry. There was a minor incident when the event organizers subtly asked Odumodublvck, the winner of the Next Rated Category, to vacate the stage while he was delivering an extended speech after receiving his award. The acclaimed rapper, who had taken the stage with his mother and a group of friends and record label associates, firmly refused to leave until the organizers eventually activated his microphone, which had been turned off, allowing him to complete his speech.

The Court Has Approved the EFCC's Arrests of the $1 Billion Scammers Behind CBEX.
On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja authorized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to apprehend and detain six individuals associated with Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX) due to alleged investment fraud exceeding one billion dollars. Justice Emeka Nwite issued this directive following an ex-parte motion presented by EFCC's attorney, Fadila Yusuf, indicating that the detention would last until the investigation into the alleged crimes is completed and potential prosecution is considered. The judge stated, 'I have reviewed the submissions made by the counsel for the applicant, EFCC, and examined the affidavit evidence along with the accompanying exhibits and written address.
I find the application to be valid and therefore grant it as requested.' The six individuals identified as suspects include Adefowora Abiodun Olanipekun, Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, Seyi Oloyede, Avwerosuo Otorudo, and Chukwuebuka Ehirim, listed as the first to sixth defendants, respectively. In a motion filed on April 23, Yusuf requested two orders from the court: one for the issuance of arrest warrants for the defendants and another to remand them in custody of the complainant/applicant until the investigation and potential prosecution are concluded. The lawyer outlined four reasons supporting the EFCC's statutory responsibility to prevent and detect financial crimes through investigation, noting that there was intelligence received by the commission's chairman regarding various criminal activities involving the defendants.
The applicant is constitutionally obligated to investigate these offenses and uphold law and order, as stated by her. Yusuf indicated that a warrant for the defendants' arrest is necessary to facilitate a thorough investigation and prosecution of this matter. In the affidavit supporting the motion, the EFCC reported that in April 2025, it received intelligence regarding an alleged investment scheme fraud involving the defendants. It was claimed that the defendants, along with their company, ST Technologies International Limited, utilized another entity, Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), to carry out the purported fraud, which was subsequently assigned to the Cybercrimes Section for investigation. The anti-corruption agency asserted that a warrant of arrest is essential to place the defendants on a red watch list, enabling their tracking and apprehension to respond to the charges against them. The commission further noted that the investigation into the allegations against the defendants has established a prima facie case of investment fraud, and it would serve the interests of justice to approve the application.
Take in the Values of Sacrifice, Love, and Humility. Apostle Godfrey Omodubor Says
Clergymen have been encouraged to adopt a culture of humility, love, and selflessness towards their congregants and the broader community. This guidance was delivered on Sunday by Apostle Godfrey Omodubor at the Faith Gospel Revival Deliverance Ministries Worldwide in Eteqwe, the capital of Bayelsa State, during a ceremony honoring him. The accolade, presented by the organizers of the esteemed Bayelsa Media Network Award (B.M.N.A), recognized him as the 'Prophet of the Year 2025' for his exceptional compassion and dedication to the people. Prophet Godfrey Omodubor expressed his gratitude for the award, viewing it as a motivation to further serve society.
He remarked, 'I did not anticipate this recognition, nor did I seek it, but as it pleases God to honor me in this manner, I am truly grateful and pray for the strength to do even more.' He emphasized that when God calls an individual, He provides the necessary support for success, which requires patience, perseverance, and diligence. 'God is neither a magician nor a debtor; He rewards everyone at the appropriate time and season.' He extended his thanks to the organizers for acknowledging his modest contributions to society. During the award presentation, Mr. Blessing Ozegbe, Project Manager of the Bayelsa Media Network Award, stated that the recognition stemmed from Apostle Godfrey Omodubor's significant contributions to societal development. He characterized the clergyman as diligent and devoted, noting that despite his role as a spiritual leader, he actively engages with individuals both within and beyond his community. 'We have been observing him closely, and based on our investigations and the testimonies of those around him, he is indeed a man of God, exemplifying humility and respect for individuals of all ages. His character is commendable, and I hope other clergymen will take inspiration from him.
“This is an award that is not commonly given and because we couldn’t find a worthy person last year, this category was suspended and by the grace of God this year, we discovered this man of humility, full of love and sacrifice to be given the award “.
He encourage the man of God not relent in doing good to people and to see his calling as a genuine call from God.
The award ceremony was witnessed by his large congregation and visitors which also happened to be his birthday.
Jonathan, a Former President, on the Late Pope Francis
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Catholic Church and the global Christian community on the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis, the esteemed leader of the Catholic Church. Pope Francis was a spiritual figure whose influence extended beyond the church to various aspects of humanity. He championed peace, justice, and equality worldwide. His death, occurring just a day after delivering his Easter sermon, underscores his unwavering commitment to service and faith. Even during challenging times, he remained steadfast in his beliefs and his mission to promote peace, justice, and love globally. As we contemplate the void left by his absence, may his legacy of faith, dedication, and service to God continue to motivate us all - GEJ.
Support Workers at the Warri Refinery Threaten to Close Due to Unfavorable Working Conditions
A significant number of support personnel at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) in Delta State have issued a warning to halt operations at the refinery on May 5, 2025, unless their requests for improved working conditions and equitable compensation are addressed. The employees, who have been advocating for their rights for nearly ten years, assert that they have endured what they term 'workplace slavery' and emotional distress.
Their monthly earnings are insufficient, ranging from ₦90,000 to ₦165,000. They report a lack of essential employment benefits and have been denied permanent staff status despite over a decade of service. The workers contend that WRPC's management and its parent organization, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, have failed to fulfill numerous commitments made since 2015. They have announced an indefinite protest and have set a deadline of May 5, 2025, for management to comply with their demands; otherwise, they will initiate a complete shutdown of the facility. The workers are advocating for complete emancipation from what they characterize as 'workplace slavery.' Despite numerous protests and mediation attempts by local leaders and senior officials, their demands remain unmet. The workers assert that management has not honored its commitments, and they are resolute in their intention to take significant measures to realize their objectives.

Why Corps Members and Others Must Take Drug Tests: NDLEA Boss
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has articulated its reasoning behind advocating for drug integrity assessments for youth corps members and individuals intending to marry. NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), stated that this initiative is designed to deter substance abuse and facilitate early intervention. In a discussion with the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, the NDLEA leader emphasized that this initiative is not punitive; individuals who test positive can receive treatment for drug dependence and related health issues before their situation worsens. He extended his congratulations to the NYSC leader on his recent appointment, characterizing the scheme as a national asset and a significant tool for fostering national unity. He remarked, 'The drug epidemic continues to wreak havoc on our youth, families, and communities across the nation. There is no region in the country that is free from drug abuse challenges.' He noted that one in seven Nigerians aged 15 to 64 engages in drug use. While acknowledging the efforts to limit the accessibility of these substances, he stressed the necessity of collaborating with all stakeholders, including the NYSC, to significantly reduce the demand for drugs among the youth, with drug integrity testing being a key strategy in this endeavor. He further indicated that efforts to reduce drug supply must be complemented by initiatives aimed at decreasing demand through preventive strategies, counseling, and rehabilitation. 'These are crucial areas for enhanced collaboration. The introduction of War Against Drug Abuse clubs in the camps is commendable. Another vital aspect of our partnership is the implementation of drug integrity tests for youth corps members. This represents a significant effort to reduce drug demand. Similarly, we propose that both parties in a marriage should present a drug-free certificate.'
Marwa emphasized that early detection of drug use is crucial to prevent the progression to addiction, which can lead to psychiatric issues and pose a threat to both the individual and society.
Minister: FG Has Allocated ₦50 Billion to ASUU and Others to Settle Earned Allowances.
In order to address the concerns regarding earned allowances, the Federal Government has allocated ₦50 billion to the academic and non-academic staff unions of federal universities (ASUU/NASUU). This information was revealed in a statement released on Wednesday by Folasade Boriowo, the Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa. Nigerians Are Asked by the SEC to Report Any Suspected Ponzi Schemes.
The Securities and Exchange Commission has called on Nigerians to report any suspected illegal investment schemes to the commission for thorough investigation and appropriate action. In a notice released on Thursday to the investing public, the Commission cautioned that Ponzi investment schemes pose significant risks to the development of the capital market. This warning follows the recent case of CBEX, a digital investment platform deemed unregistered by the SEC, which promised investors a 100 percent profit after 30 days of alleged trading. Approximately 600,000 Nigerians who invested in this scheme found themselves ensnared, resulting in a staggering loss of N1.3 trillion after the Ponzi scheme collapsed. Additionally, MTS/Tofro defrauded over 12,000 Nigerians of billions of dollars on April 19, 2025, when all investors were locked out of the MTS trading platform. Investigations have revealed that similar MTS/Tofro platforms in other countries, such as Ghana, remain operational and functional, while Nigerian investors have been left vulnerable. In its latest advisory, the Commission alerted the public to the increasing threats and risks associated with Ponzi schemes, illegal investment activities, and unregistered digital asset platforms. It clarified that fraudulent entities and individuals continue to take advantage of unsuspecting investors through misleading promises of high returns, often using the appeal of digital assets to create a false sense of legitimacy. The public is strongly urged to exercise caution regarding investment opportunities that guarantee or promise unusually high returns with minimal or no risk. This includes unregistered platforms offering cryptocurrency investments, forex trading, or blockchain-based schemes that have not undergone the necessary processes to obtain prior approval from the SEC. The SEC emphasizes that 'If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.'
The commission has advised prospective investors to perform comprehensive due diligence prior to making any investments and to confirm the registration status of the entity or individual presenting the investment opportunity via the SEC’s official website: https://sec.gov.ng/cmos. Section 196 (3) of the Investments and Securities Act, 2025 makes it a criminal offense to promote or operate unregistered or prohibited schemes. Such an infraction may result in a penalty of no less than N20 million or a prison sentence of 10 years, or both. The SEC has expressed its unwavering commitment to identifying and prosecuting violators to the fullest extent of the law. The notice concluded by encouraging the public to collaborate with the SEC in preserving the integrity of Nigeria's investment landscape by promptly reporting any suspected illegal investment schemes to the SEC.

Governor Adeleke Will Travel to London to Attend the Commonwealth Trade & Investment Forum and the Investment Summit.
● To Visit British Museum for Talks on Creative Sector Collaboration
● Preaches Peaceful Coexistence Among Traditional Rulers
By David Owei, Yenagoa.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State is set to participate in a series of high-profile investment activities in London this week, which will include the esteemed Commonwealth Business Forum and other focused investment summits.
In a global environment where developed nations are actively pursuing new investment opportunities, Governor Adeleke will engage in strategic discussions with key stakeholders, including the UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, with the aim of attracting capital and partnerships to Osun’s priority sectors.
As part of his official agenda, the Governor will also visit the British Museum to identify potential collaboration opportunities in the creative and cultural sectors, aiming to further promote and export Osun’s rich heritage, arts, and creative talents.
Throughout his various engagements, the Governor is anticipated to highlight the improved investment climate in Osun State, focusing on:
• Reduction in infrastructure deficits
• Harmonization of the tax system
• Enhanced security for lives and property
• 45-day window for the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy for business-related land use
Since November 2022, Osun State has welcomed over 100 prospective investors, with more than half of these interests evolving into active initiatives within significant economic sectors.
In this context, Governor Adeleke has urged traditional leaders throughout the state to promote peace and avoid actions that could incite conflict or public disputes.
“Our royal leaders have long been the guardians of peace and unity in their communities. They embody harmony and act as mediators at the grassroots level,” stated Governor Adeleke.
“In times of governance challenges, we frequently seek the counsel and intervention of our royal leaders. Recently, the State Council of Traditional Rulers convened with me to discuss important state issues. This council plays a crucial role, and we must prevent internal disagreements from becoming public spectacles.”
“We cannot permit a scenario where royal leaders are seen in open conflict with one another. If left unaddressed, such behavior could escalate communal tensions. I implore our esteemed monarchs to be cautious with their public statements to ensure unity and peaceful coexistence throughout the state.”
Kirikiri Baale Explains How Bobrisky Paid N35 Million to Live Comfortably After Smuggling ATMs into Kirikiri.
The Baale of Kirikiri Town, Chief Babalola Shabi, commonly referred to as “Baale No-Nonsense,” has accused officials from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) of facilitating preferential treatment for the controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, during his imprisonment for Naira abuse.
The Lagos traditional leader claimed that Bobrisky managed to smuggle eight Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards into the Kirikiri custodial facility, using them to conduct transactions totaling N35 million through Point of Sale (POS) operators in the vicinity, allegedly to bribe prison staff for special privileges.
Shabi made these allegations at a town hall meeting hosted by the Lagos State Police Command on Saturday, April 5, as part of the National Police Week celebrations.
He asserted that Bobrisky did not serve his full sentence in prison but was instead accommodated in a private residence outside the custodial facility, allegedly arranged by corrupt correctional officials.
He stated, “Before the truth emerged, many believed he was serving his time in Kirikiri. However, the reality is that Bobrisky was living comfortably outside the prison, facilitated by a criminal conspiracy involving certain officials.”
Shabi noted that it was his intervention that brought the scandal to light, explaining that he had summoned all POS operators in the community to his palace, which led to the involvement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“I personally contacted the EFCC after gathering the POS operators at my palace. From that point, they were able to trace the transactions and uncover the financial trail,” he remarked.
The traditional leader elaborated that the scheme involved correctional officers soliciting POS vendors to withdraw cash from the crossdresser’s ATM cards.
He emphasized that the ease with which the funds were accessed suggested a well-coordinated network of accomplices.
It was astonishing how N35 million could be raised from this area in such a short time. It is evident that this was not the effort of a single individual. The officials who assisted him have since been suspended, Shabi remarked.
He went on to claim that the location where Bobrisky was reportedly held during that time has been located and subsequently demolished, and that both the Department of State Services and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have questioned him regarding the matter.
“The DSS initially summoned me for an interview, and I provided them with all the information I had. The EFCC also contacted me, and I fully cooperated with them. As a leader in the community, I cannot permit this kind of impunity to persist,” he stated.
His testimony stands in contrast to an earlier report issued by a National Assembly panel, which concluded that Bobrisky received special treatment while remaining within the prison facilities for the duration of his sentence.

Despite Threats, her Constituents Give Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan a Warm Reception.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, received an enthusiastic welcome from her constituents today, despite a ban on public gatherings imposed by the state government and a curfew enacted by the Local Government Chairman.
The senator, who has been embroiled in political controversies in recent months, was seen celebrating alongside her supporters, demonstrating a bold display of solidarity.
This vibrant reception, which occurred on Tuesday in defiance of state authorities and the Nigerian police, underscored the strong support she commands within her district.
A video shared by Trustbase News captured thousands of her supporters and well-wishers gathered in a lively atmosphere as the senator danced to traditional music.
Waving a Nigerian flag, she expressed her appreciation and reaffirmed her dedication to the sovereignty of Nigeria.
The festive scene stood in stark contrast to the political challenges she has faced recently.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has encountered increasing controversy, having been suspended from the Senate for six months last month due to alleged violations of legislative protocols.
Additionally, efforts are underway to initiate her recall from the Senate, further escalating the political drama surrounding her position.
The senator contends that her political challenges are a result of her recent allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, asserting that influential figures are leveraging legislative actions to suppress her voice.
Her public reception, despite government-imposed restrictions, indicates sustained grassroots support.
As tensions mount regarding her political future, this bold display of backing may complicate any attempts to oust her from office.
It has also been reported that Amoka Monday, the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, has instituted an indefinite curfew throughout the council area, citing security concerns and the necessity of maintaining public order.
The decision was made in light of increased political activities, particularly regarding the anticipated return of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In a statement released personally, the council Chairman indicated that the curfew was in accordance with the directives from the Kogi State government and the Commissioner of Police.
Monday explained that the curfew is intended to prevent what he termed unauthorized political gatherings and uncontrolled public assemblies that could pose a risk to peace and stability in the area.
“The curfew, which is effective immediately, limits movement and public gatherings in specified locations.
“Individuals found lingering or congregating in restricted areas without prior authorization from the appropriate authorities will face arrest and prosecution,” the statement indicated.
The chairman emphasized that ensuring the security and stability of residents is a primary concern for his administration.
He cautioned that any actions likely to provoke unrest or disturb public order would not be accepted.
“The safety of our citizens is of utmost importance. We will not permit any circumstances that could threaten the peace and stability of our communities,” Monday asserted.
The curfew was implemented amid escalating political tensions in Kogi State, particularly related to Senator Natasha, a prominent opposition figure.
In addition to her ongoing allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Natasha has been a vocal critic of the state government, advocating for electoral integrity and economic progress in the region.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has frequently been at odds with state government officials and the ruling party over governance matters.
Her planned visit to her home district in Okene has raised alarms among local authorities, who are concerned about possible confrontations between political supporters and adversaries.
The enforcement of a curfew and the prohibition of rallies are interpreted by some analysts as a proactive strategy to stifle opposition activities in anticipation of the upcoming election cycle.
As previously reported, the Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has prohibited the scheduled homecoming rally for Senator Natasha.
This decision has incited anger among her supporters, who perceive it as politically driven. However, the Command, through a statement released on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, defended the ban by citing intelligence reports that indicated plans by troublemakers to take over the event and incite disorder.
The police reiterated their commitment to preventing any actions that could disturb the current peace in the state.
Additionally, the Kogi State Government has supported the decision, asserting that it is essential for maintaining order and preventing the spread of misinformation.
In the meantime, residents have shared a variety of opinions regarding the curfew.

This reflective period aims to enhance current reforms and expedite national development priorities for the upcoming year.
Recent economic advancements underscore the President's dedication to these initiatives, highlighted by the Central Bank of Nigeria's report of a substantial rise in net foreign exchange reserves to $23.11 billion, a notable increase from $3.99 billion in 2023, reflecting the administration's fiscal reforms.
While he is away, President Tinubu will remain actively involved with his team and continue to oversee governance matters. He is expected to return to Nigeria in approximately two weeks.
