BREAKING NEWS - Leader Of The APC In Rivers State, Amaechi Adopts AAC Guber Candidate

The Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has directed Members of the Party to Vote for the Governorship Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the State, in the person of Engr. Biokpomabo Awara.

''We are voting AAC in, while we follow our case in court'', Amaechi said at TownSquare Event Centre, Aleto Eleme this morning.

The minister of Transportation made this declaration on Wednesday morning in Eleme, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, while addressing APC's members and supporters, ahead of the Saturday March 9th Gubernatorial election.

He noted that although the main opposition APC in Rivers was still in court over the non-inclusion of the party's standard bearer, Pastor Tonye Cole, an indigene of Abonnema-Kalabari in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, on the ballot.

Amaechi stressed that it was pertinent to adopt the candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), considering the closeness of the governorship and House of Assembly elections.

He said: ''This morning, the leadership of the party met and agreed that we would work with a party called African Action Congress (AAC), while we are still in court to reclaim our mandate.

''So, on Saturday 9th March, we will vote for AAC. You must go home and vote for AAC. There should be no excuse not to vote, because there will be security for everybody. You must prepare and make sure you win the governorship election.''

The transportation minister also enjoined Rivers people to massively vote for the AAC's candidate, stressing that there were numerous benefits they would derive from the government.

He said: ''The moment the governorship election is won by AAC's candidate this Saturday and the new governor is inaugurated on May 29, 2019, by June this year, there will be local government's chairmanship and councillorship elections.

''So, you should all go out and vote and make sure that you are not rigged out.''

The transportation minister was however silent on who APC members in Rivers should vote for in the House of Assembly poll, but an ally of Amaechi, who spoke in confidence, disclosed that AAC did not have candidates for House of Assembly election.

Not up to 2 weeks when a Nigerian fighter, Israel Adesanya defeated the warrior from Brazil Anderson Silva in an MMA battle in Melbourne, Australia. The sport world witnessed another Nigerian, Kamaru Usman, defeated his opponent after landing heavy blow on the American, Tyron Woodley at the weekend, in an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) contest in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Israel Adesanya who is just 29 years old is from Odogbolu in Ogun State, Nigeria. On the other hand 31 years old Kamaru Usman is from Auchi Edo State, Nigeria. Adesanya lives in New Zealand with his parents, and his victory against the Brazilian two weeks ago in Australia has boosted his record with MMA to 16-0, which includes 5 victories inside the famed Octagon. He is now slated to fight Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236 for the interim-UFC middleweight title.

Adesanya, who used to be a pro kickboxer, is a stand-up machine and famous for his kicks and elbows. He also owns an 80'' reach. In the early hours of Sunday, Kamaru Usman emerged as the first African fighter to win a UFC title after defeating his American counterpart, Tyron Woodley across all five rounds to get a winning decision from the judges in the mixed-martial arts (MMA) bout.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is the biggest competition in MMA, where athletes combine boxing, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, wrestling and other disciplines while fighting in an octagonal cage. Usman, known as the 'Nigerian Nightmare', produced the performance of his career to dominate long-reigning welterweight champion, Woodley in the battle of Las Vegas. The Nigerian has extended his winning streaks to 14 and maintained his unbeaten record in the UFC.

Woodley is widely known as the greatest welterweight of all time, but Usman was able to showcase his talent and snapped Woodley's unbeaten streak to become the first Nigerian born champion, four years after joining the UFC. In his post-match press conference, Usman revealed that before the match, he had fractured his foot and had been walking around in a supportive boot all week.

He started off the press conference greeting journalists in Arabic before switching to Pidgin. ''Nigeria, I have told them, we would do it, I told them we never fail. And we have done it today,'' he said in Pidgin. Usman was born in Nigeria, but left Benin City for Arlington in Texas as a young child when his family migrated to the U.S, he resides in Dallas.

23 years later, he is proud of his nickname, the 'Nigerian Nightmare', he told BBC World Service's Sportsworld. But he is not the only sportsman known as the 'Nigerian Nightmare.' Usman invited two others with the nickname to his match against Woodley at the weekend, the former heavyweight boxer Samuel Peter and the former Kansas City Chiefs American Football, Christian Okoye. Usman, a former winner of the Ultimate Fighter TV show, began wrestling at high school in Texas and was a top prospect throughout college.

''It was a time to make switch and not just be a wrestler anymore, but to be a fighter and to go make a living for not just myself but my family as well,'' he told Sportsworld. Usman, and his family immigrated to the United States when he was about eight years old. After compiling a 53-3 record in high school wrestling, Usman's wrestling career took off after transferring to the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

He earned NCAA Division ll All-American honors all three years he attended and helped the school win its first-ever overall team title in 2008. In his senior season, he won the 2010 NCAA Division ll national title at 174 lbs. In addition, he was also a member of the University World Team for wrestling in 2010. Usman is one of five Africans in the UFC and it presents the perfect arena to showcase his talent. He joined the elite level in 2015, and since then the Nigerian has slowly worked his way up the ranks from rookie to title challenger in the space of just a few years. His rise has brought attention from some friends in high places.

In September 2018, Usman was penciled in as the backup for a fight between Woodley and English challenger Darren Till amid fears that Till would not make the weight required to fight in the division. Usman said he went on a grueling training camp and strict diet to prepare for the potential fight, but in the end, the fight never happened as Till made the weight just a day before his bout with Woodley, which Till eventually lost.

Usman was disappointed he didn't get the chance against Woodley but said: ''I believe in fate. I believe in karma. Maybe God wanted me to get it a certain another way, but am gonna do everything in my power to make sure that am a champion.'' The opportunity finally came on Sunday morning, and Usman achieved his ultimate UFC goal as he dethrone Tyron Woodley (one of the games best wrestlers) to win the welterweight title. His perfect octagon record continued with a one-sided decision victory over Woodley (19-4-1 MMA, 9-3-1 UFC) to claim the 170-pound title.

''I might not be the best striker, I might not be the best wrestler, but when it comes to mixing it up, there's no question am the best welterweight on the planet,'' Usman said after the victory. With the victory, Usman improved to 15-1. He has won 14 in a row, and is 10-0 in the UFC.

CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele Asked To Leave Office, By Nigerian Government

The Nigerian government has asked the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele to proceed on leave ahead of expiration of his tenure.

The CBN Governor was said to have received a letter to that effect on Monday. The financial expert has been Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria since June 3rd, 2014.

He was Chief Executive officer and Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc and previously the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc. Emefiele also served as Executive Director in charge of Corporate Banking, Treasury, Financial Control and Strategic Planning of Zenith Bank Plc and has been on the Management team since inception.

Emefiele was one time a director at Zenith Bank Plc and Zenith Bank (Gambia) Limited.

Before commencing his banking career, he lectured Finance and Insurance at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and University of Port Harcourt, respectively. He is an alumnus of Executive Education at Stanford University, Harvard University (2004) and Wharton School of Business (2005).

Emefiele holds a B.Sc. Degree in Finance in 1984 and an MBA Degree in Finance in 1984, both from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

A massive jubilation witnessed by residents of a community in Delta State, as a young girl regained freedom from the hands of her kidnappers and suspecting ritualist.

It all happened when the young girl was on her way back from school some few days after the Saturday 23rd February 2019 general elections, when she was kidnapped in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

As narrated by her, she stopped a motor-cycle on her way home and was told by the motor-cycle rider that he wanted to go and buy fuel from a petrol station which she agreed to the slight change of direction.

But the bike rider (Okada-man) also picked up another man whom he claimed he wanted to help. That was how she was kidnapped and taken into a bush. The young girl said on getting there, she saw two other girls in the ritualist camp who were blindfolded.

She mentioned after being forced to lie down and was about to be killed with a cutlass, the master allegedly prevented his boys from killing her as he said that her head is not good for sacrifice. The girl was blindfolded, taken out of the ritualist camp and dumped by the roadside where she met some women who helped her back to her house.

Malaysia News - Some Fake Security Officials Has Been Caught Trying To Cheat Travellers At KLIA, Cops Disclose

Police in Sepang have warned the public to be on alert for imposters who claim to be immigration officers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), saying 18 individuals were arrested last year for the offence including taxi touts and illegal porters.

KLIA police chief Zulkifli Adamshah said the imposters were usually dressed in a blazer similar to the one worn by immigration officer, and would normally prey on Indians, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis.

''From reports we received, the imposters would stop these travelers and try to convince them they may have passport problems. 

''In return they solicit for money, and if they fail to obtain money, they would threaten the travelers,'' he said.

He further explains that the imposters were usually Malaysians who were fluent in different languages. 

''Our latest arrest is a 57 year old man, he is going to be charged under Section 170 of the Penal Code,'' he said.

He said foreign travelers should inform the police it they were asked for money by people who claim to be immigration officers.

Meanwhile, KLIA Road Transport Department chief S. Sarawana reminded airport users to ignore taxi touts.

''We have arrested 33 taxi touts and will continue our operations since there is a rise in taxi touts,'' he said.

Over 50 Persons Have Gone Missing In Nigeria's Pipeline Explosion, Bayelsa State

Report coming in stated that over 50 people are missing after a leaking oil pipeline exploded and caused a stampede in southern Nigeria, a local official said on Saturday.

The blast early on Friday caused massive oil spillage in the Nembe kingdom in Bayelsa state, the Nembe Chiefs Council spokesman, Chief Nengi James Eriworio, told the Associated Press.

The Nembe trunk line is operated by the Port Harcourt based Aiteo Group and carries crude oil to the Bonny export terminal. Aiteo has yet to comment on the explosion. It was not immediately clear if the pipeline has been shut down.

Video obtained by the AP shows a large blaze from the ruptured pipeline at night as villagers look on. ''If they turn off the oil well from the station, the pressure inside the pipeline would reduce, causing the flame to burn out,'' as someone is heard explaining in the background.

The Niger Delta is highly polluted. Nigerian oil companies usually assert that the majority of oil spills are caused by sabotage, theft and illegal refining.

Fatal accidents caused by leaking pipelines are common. In January, an overturned oil tanker exploded in Odukpani in Cross River state while dozens of people were scooping up the leaking fuel. Police said at least 12 people were killed while some witnesses estimated up to 60 dead were counted.

Hundreds of people have died in similar accidents in recent years in Africa's largest oil producing country as impoverished people risk their lives to collect fuel leaking from pipelines or trucks.
